Give your laundry some breathing room with a portable washer drain hose 2m kit that reaches the sink, tub or standpipe without a fight.

A flexible corrugated hose with four adapter diameters, three clamps and a U-bracket, so you get a snug, drip-free run on most washers and dishwashers in a few minutes.

Extends a short factory drain hose so your washer can sit where you actually want it.

The kit ships with four adapter diameters covering 3/4, 7/8, 1-1/4 and 1-1/2 inch outlets.

Three hose clamps and a U-bracket keep the connection tight and stop the end flicking out of the sink.

Corrugated ABS construction bends around cabinets and corners without collapsing or kinking.

Works with most washing machines and dishwashers, including portable and benchtop models.

Portable Washer Drain Hose Extension Kit

Most washing machines ship with a drain hose that is just long enough for one specific laundry layout, and almost never yours. Move the machine six inches to the left, put it under a bench, or set a portable washer next to the kitchen sink, and suddenly the hose will not reach. This kit solves that with roughly two metres of flexible corrugated hose, plus the adapter and clamps you need to join it up properly instead of taping two ends together and hoping.

Portable Washer Drain Hose Extension Kit

The adapter is the part that makes this a universal washing machine drain hose rather than a one-machine part. It gives you four stepped diameters covering 3/4, 7/8, 1-1/4 and 1-1/2 inch outlets. Measure the outside diameter of your machine's drain spigot, choose the matching step, and slide the hose over it. If a step is larger than you need, it simply sits unused further down the adapter.

Portable Washer Drain Hose Extension Kit

Three hose clamps come in the box. One secures the hose to the machine outlet, and the others handle the adapter joint or a second connection point. Hand-tighten with a screwdriver until the hose grips firmly. The U-bracket is just as important. It hooks over the lip of a sink, tub or standpipe and holds the hose end in place so the discharge does not jump out mid-cycle and soak the floor.

Portable Washer Drain Hose Extension Kit

The hose body is corrugated ABS, which is the reason it bends around a cabinet corner or a tight gap behind the machine without pinching shut. Smooth hoses tend to crease when you force a sharp turn, and a creased hose restricts flow or traps water. The ribbed wall keeps its round shape through the bend. It also makes the hose easy to stretch out or compress back down when you are not using it.

This is a sensible thing to keep on hand if you run a portable or benchtop washer, live in a rental where the plumbing is fixed and the machine is not, or have a dishwasher that needs a dishwasher drain extension to reach the waste point. The kit weighs 0.17 kg and the hose measures 198.1 cm long by 2.5 cm wide. Material type, colour and included parts are listed in the specs. Anything not shown there is not specified by the maker.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

A drain part has to fit the drain you have, and you cannot always judge that from a photograph. If it is not right for you, send it back within 14 days of delivery in resaleable condition and we refund the price you paid, including standard delivery. That is on top of your Australian Consumer Law rights if anything arrives faulty.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Australian Consumer Law and the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 covers you, and we pay the return postage. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly comes in the box?

You get the corrugated drain hose, one adapter, three hose clamps and a U-bracket holder. That is everything needed for a standard extension on most machines. No tools are included, so have a flat or cross-head screwdriver handy for the clamps.

How long is the hose?

The hose measures 198.1 cm, which is about 6.5 feet or roughly two metres. That is usually enough to bridge the gap between a machine and a nearby sink, tub or standpipe. If your run is longer than that, you would need a second kit or a longer single hose.

Will it fit my washing machine?

The adapter carries four pipe head diameters, 3/4, 7/8, 1-1/4 and 1-1/2 inch, which covers most domestic washer outlets. Measure the outside diameter of your machine's drain spigot before ordering and compare it to those four sizes. If your outlet falls within that range, this universal washing machine drain hose should connect.

Can I use it with a dishwasher?

Yes, it is designed to work as a dishwasher drain extension as well as a washer hose. The same adapter sizes apply, so check your dishwasher's drain outlet diameter first. Dishwasher water runs hotter, so make sure the clamp is firm at both ends.

Does it work with portable and benchtop washers?

It does, and that is one of the main uses. A portable washing machine drain hose often only needs to reach the kitchen sink, and the included U-bracket hooks over the sink edge to hold the end steady. The hose compresses down for storage between washes.

What material is the hose made from?

It is made from Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, usually shortened to ABS. ABS is a common plastic for appliance hose work because it holds its shape and tolerates repeated flexing. The hose is grey.

Is the hose ribbed or smooth inside?

It is a corrugated hose, so the wall is ribbed. The ribbing is what lets it bend around corners without collapsing or pinching closed. Smooth-wall hoses crease more easily when forced into a tight turn.

How do I attach it to the machine?

Slide the correct adapter step over your machine's drain outlet, push the hose on, then tighten a clamp over the joint with a screwdriver. Repeat at any second connection point. The whole job normally takes a few minutes.

What is the U-bracket for?

It is a holder that hooks over the rim of a sink, laundry tub or standpipe and grips the hose end. Without one, the force of draining water can make a loose hose kick out of the sink. Think of it as cheap insurance against a wet floor.

Why are there three clamps?

One clamp secures the hose to the appliance outlet and the others cover the adapter joint or a second connection. Having a spare is useful if you reposition the machine later or want extra grip on a slightly loose fitting. Hand tightening with a screwdriver is all that is needed.

Do I need plumbing experience to fit it?

No. If you can tighten a screw and push a hose onto a spigot, you can fit this. For a fixed dishwasher installation that involves cutting into existing waste plumbing, call a plumber.

Can I cut the hose shorter?

Corrugated hose can usually be trimmed between ribs with a sharp knife or snips, but cut carefully and squarely so the clamp still seats properly. Only trim if you are confident, since you cannot undo it. Most people leave it full length and loop the slack.

Will it leak?

A correctly sized adapter plus a firmly tightened clamp gives a snug joint. Leaks almost always come from the wrong adapter step, a clamp that was never properly tightened, or a kinked hose causing back pressure. Run a short cycle and watch the joints the first time.

How high can the hose discharge?

That depends on your machine's pump, not on the hose. Check your appliance manual for the maximum drain height it allows, usually printed in the installation section. Going above it can make the pump struggle or leave water sitting in the drum.

Can I join two of these together for more length?

It is possible with the right coupling, but every joint is another potential leak point and longer runs increase pump load. If you need a much longer run, a single continuous hose is the better choice. Check your appliance manual for maximum recommended drain hose length.

Does it fit a kitchen sink drain pipe?

Many people use a kitchen sink drain hose setup where the washer discharges straight into the sink using the U-bracket. Connecting it into fixed sink waste plumbing is a different job and may need a dedicated fitting. Measure first.

What colour is it?

Grey. It is a practical, neutral colour that does not stand out behind a machine or under a bench.

How much does it weigh?

The kit weighs 0.17 kg. It is light enough to post easily and light enough that the hose will not drag a clamp loose under its own weight.

Is it suitable for a caravan or tiny home?

It works well as a caravan washing machine drain hose because it flexes into small spaces and packs down when not in use. Make sure your grey water arrangement is appropriate for where you are parked. Always follow local rules on waste water discharge.

How do I stop the hose kinking?

Give it a wide curve rather than a tight fold, and avoid trapping it between the machine and a wall. Corrugated hose resists kinking well, but a hard right angle pressed flat by a heavy appliance is still a problem. Leave a little slack at each end.

How do I clean it?

Run clean water through it after greasy or heavily soiled loads to flush lint and residue. For a deeper clean, flush with warm water and a little detergent, then rinse. Let it drain fully before storing.

Should it be replaced at some point?

Any flexible plastic hose can harden or crack with years of use and heat. Check it once or twice a year for stiffness, splits or chalky patches, and replace it if you find any. Replacing a cheap hose is far less trouble than a flooded floor.

Will it handle hot water?

It is intended for appliance drain water, which includes warm and hot wash cycles. Avoid running it near an oven, heater or anything with an open flame. If you need a specific temperature rating, that figure is not specified by the maker.

Can it be used outdoors?

Short term, yes, such as draining into an outdoor gully. Long sun exposure is not kind to plastic hoses, so bring it in between uses if you can. Freezing conditions can also make plastic brittle.

Is it a replacement hose or just an extension?

Most people use it as a washer drain hose extension kit, joining it to the existing hose for extra reach. With the right adapter fit, it can also act as a replacement washer drain hose on machines where the outlet matches one of the four sizes. Measure your outlet to decide which approach suits.

What tools do I need?

A screwdriver for the clamps, and a tape measure or calipers to check your outlet diameter. That is it. A towel underfoot during the first test cycle is a good idea too.

How is it packed and shipped?

The hose compresses for shipping and arrives with the adapter, clamps and bracket in the same pack. Stretch it out gently to full length before fitting. If it has been folded in transit, let it sit uncoiled for a while first.

Is this a good gift?

It is a genuinely useful gift for someone setting up a first apartment, moving a laundry, or buying a portable washer. Practical gifts like this get used straight away. Pair it with a laundry basket or a set of washing machine feet for something more complete.

What is your delivery and returns policy?

We deliver nationwide and dispatch orders as soon as they are processed. Delivery times and the full returns window are shown at checkout and on our delivery page. Keep the packaging until you have confirmed the fit.

What if it is not right for my machine?

If the adapter does not match your outlet or the hose is too short for your layout, get in touch and we will sort it out. Return it unused and in its packaging within the stated returns window for a refund or an exchange. Tell us your machine model and outlet measurement and we can point you to a better match.

How To Choose And Fit A Washing Machine Drain Hose Extension

6 min read Drains Company

The problem nobody warns you about

You buy the machine. You clear the space. You wheel it in, and then you discover the drain hose is about thirty centimetres short of where the water needs to go. It is one of those small frustrations that can stall a whole afternoon, and it happens constantly, because appliance makers fit a hose length that suits an average installation rather than yours.

Portable and benchtop washers make it worse. They are designed to live next to a sink and drain into it, which is fine if the sink is right there. Push the machine to the other side of the bench, or try to reach a laundry tub around a corner, and the stock hose runs out of length fast. Dishwashers have the same issue when the waste connection sits further away than the manufacturer assumed.

The usual fixes are bad. Taping two hoses together leaks. Balancing the hose on the edge of a sink works until the pump kicks in and the end flicks out. Moving the machine closer to the drain just to make the hose fit means giving up bench space you wanted. A proper extension kit is the sane answer, and it is not expensive.

How a drain hose extension actually works

A washing machine does not drain by gravity alone. There is a pump inside that pushes water out through the drain port, which means the hose only needs to carry the water, not create the flow. That is why extending the run is usually straightforward.

What you are doing is joining a new length of hose to the existing outlet, or replacing the short hose entirely. The connection has to be snug, because a loose joint under pump pressure will spray. That is where the adapter and the clamps come in.

The adapter is a stepped plastic fitting with several diameters moulded into it. This kit gives you four, covering 3/4, 7/8, 1-1/4 and 1-1/2 inch outlets. You pick the step that matches your machine's drain spigot, push the hose over it, and clamp it. The steps you do not use simply sit further along the fitting doing nothing.

The clamps are metal bands with a screw. Slide one over the hose before you push it on, line it up over the joint, and tighten it with a screwdriver until the hose grips firmly. Three come in the box, which covers the machine end, the adapter joint, and gives you one in reserve.

The U-bracket is the piece people skip and then regret. It is a curved holder that hooks over a sink rim, tub edge or standpipe and clamps the hose end in position. Draining water has real force behind it, and an unsecured hose will shift. Fitting the bracket takes ten seconds and prevents the single most common cause of laundry floods.

Why corrugated matters

This hose is corrugated, meaning the wall is ribbed rather than smooth. That ribbing is structural. When you bend a smooth plastic tube sharply, the inside wall buckles and the tube creases shut. A corrugated wall folds into itself at the bend and keeps the bore open.

In practice that means you can route it around a cabinet corner, behind a machine, or through a narrow gap without worrying that you have choked the flow. It also means the hose stretches and compresses, so you can pull out only as much length as you need and squash the rest down for storage.

The trade-off is that corrugated hose has slightly more internal drag than a smooth bore. For a domestic washer pump over a two metre run, this makes no practical difference.

Who this suits

Renters get the most out of it. You cannot move the plumbing, so the appliance has to work around where the waste point already is. An extension gives you the freedom to put the machine where it fits rather than where the hose dictates.

Anyone running a portable or benchtop washer will want one. These machines are built to drain into a sink, and the included U-bracket turns that into a secure setup instead of a balancing act.

It also suits people with awkward laundry layouts. Machines tucked into a cupboard, under a bench, or in a corner often sit further from the drain than the standard hose allows. The same goes for a dishwasher that needs a dishwasher drain extension to reach the waste connection.

Caravans, tiny homes and holiday setups are another common use. The hose packs down small, weighs 0.17 kg, and stretches out when you need it.

Choosing the right one

Start with the measurement. Get a tape or a set of calipers on the outside diameter of your machine's drain outlet. Write the number down. Then compare it to the four adapter sizes, 3/4, 7/8, 1-1/4 and 1-1/2 inch. If your outlet falls on or near one of those, you are fine. If it does not, no amount of clamping will make a bad size seal.

Next, measure the distance. Run a tape from the machine's drain outlet to the lip of the sink, tub or standpipe, and add slack for the bend at each end and for pulling the machine out to clean behind it. This hose is 198.1 cm, around 6.5 feet. If your measured run plus slack comes in under that, you have enough. If it is close, think about whether you will ever move the machine.

Then check drain height. Your appliance manual states a maximum height the pump can lift water to. Exceeding it strains the pump and can leave water in the drum. The hose does not change that figure, so work within it.

Finally, look at what you are mounting to. The U-bracket needs a rim or edge to hook over. A sink, laundry tub or standpipe all work. A floor gully does not, so in that case you will need to weight or tie the hose end down another way.

Fitting it without drama

Lay everything out first. Stretch the hose to full length and let it relax, especially if it arrived compressed in the pack.

Slide a clamp onto the hose before you push the hose onto the adapter, because threading it on afterwards is fiddly. Choose your adapter step, push the hose on firmly, position the clamp over the overlap, and tighten with a screwdriver. Snug, not crushed. Overtightening can deform the plastic.

Connect the other end to the machine outlet the same way. Fit the U-bracket over your sink or tub edge and seat the hose end in it. Check the whole run for tight folds or spots where the hose is pinched against a wall.

Then test it. Put a towel down, run the shortest cycle your machine has, and watch the joints while the pump is working. That is the moment a loose clamp will show itself, and it is far better to find out with a towel in place.

Keeping it working

Flush clean water through the hose after particularly greasy or dirty loads. Lint and detergent residue build up inside over time and narrow the bore.

Check the clamps every few months. Plastic relaxes slightly with heat cycling and a clamp that was tight in January can be loose by winter. A quarter turn with a screwdriver is usually all it needs.

Store the hose in a wide loop rather than folded flat. Sharp permanent creases are the one thing that will shorten a corrugated hose's life. Keep it away from heaters, ovens and anything with a flame.

Give it a look once or twice a year. If the plastic has gone stiff, chalky or cracked anywhere, replace it. A hose is cheap. Water damage is not.

The short version

A drain hose extension solves a small, annoying problem properly. This kit gives you about two metres of flexible corrugated ABS hose, four adapter diameters covering most domestic outlets, three clamps and a U-bracket to hold the end where you put it.

Measure your outlet diameter, measure the distance to the drain, check your machine's maximum drain height, and fit it with a towel down for the first test cycle. Done carefully, it takes a few minutes and then you stop thinking about it, which is exactly what you want from a part like this.
